Welcome to the Tanydd Corgi Crew FAQ!

- Big ears, short legs, even bigger hearts — that's what brings us all together here at Tanydd Corgi Crew. Whether you've been part of our pack for years or you've just stumbled across us with a corgi (or corgi-curious heart) of your own, this page is here to make your life a little easier.
- We know that joining a new community can come with plenty of questions — how to get involved, what our meetups are like, what to expect if it's your first time bringing your pup along, and how we look after the wellbeing of every dog and owner in our crew. So we've pulled together the questions we hear most often from members old and new, and answered them all in one friendly, easy-to-navigate spot.
- Here you'll find everything from the practical stuff — membership, events, walks, and etiquette — to the more corgi-specific concerns close to our hearts, like managing those short legs, long backs, and endless appetites with care. Our goal is simple: to help every corgi and their human feel confident, welcomed, and part of the family from day one.
- Still have a question that isn't answered below? Don't be shy — reach out to us directly, and someone from the crew will happily point you (and your pup) in the right direction.
- Now, go on and have a sniff around — your answers are just a scroll away.
-
We are Tanydd Corgi Crew, a small family-run breeding programme based in Cullinan, Gauteng. We specialise in carefully bred Pembroke Welsh Corgis and are registered with the Kennel Union of Southern Africa (KUSA No. 1028906).
-
Tanydd comes from the Welsh word tân meaning “fire.” It reflects the warmth, vitality, and deep bond that forms between a Corgi and its family.
-
No. We are a small, home-based programme. Every puppy is born and raised in our family home, not in outdoor runs or kennel blocks.
-
We deliberately plan only two to three carefully considered litters per year so we can give every puppy and every family individual attention.
-
No. We specialise exclusively in Pembroke Welsh Corgis, with a particular love for striking tricolour coats.
-
Availability changes. Please check our Available Puppies page or contact us on WhatsApp 060 135 5246 for the latest update. We only breed when we can do it properly.
-
Contact us via WhatsApp or the website contact form. We will add you to our reservation list after a conversation to ensure a good match for both the puppy and your family.
-
Yes. Because we produce limited litters, most families join a reservation list. We keep you informed as future litters are planned.
-
We match puppies to families based on temperament, energy level, and lifestyle after observing the litter. Preferences for colour or sex are noted and considered where possible.
-
We prefer families to collect in person so we can meet you and hand over the puppy properly. Long-distance arrangements can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
-
Puppies typically leave at 8–10 weeks of age, once they are fully weaned, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for the transition.
-
Yes. Once a litter is born and at an appropriate age, we arrange visits by appointment so you can meet the parents and puppies in our home environment.
-
Every puppy goes home with:
- Full current vaccinations
- Deworming schedule completed to date
- Microchip identification
- KUSA registration papers (or application)
- Health record and care information

-
Yes. Puppies receive their age-appropriate vaccinations before going to their new homes.
-
Yes. Every puppy is microchipped before leaving us.
-
From their first days they receive daily gentle handling, exposure to normal household sights and sounds, and careful socialisation so they leave us confident and well-adjusted.
-
They are raised in a normal family home environment with the everyday sounds, routines, and interactions that prepare them well for life in a family.
-
Pricing reflects the quality of our breeding programme, health testing, and lifelong support. Please contact us for current pricing as it can vary slightly between litters.
-
We accept bank transfers (EFTs) and will confirm accepted methods when you reserve.
-
Never. We place puppies only directly with carefully screened families.
-
Yes. When well-bred and properly raised, Pembroke Welsh Corgis make loyal, intelligent, and affectionate family companions. They do best with owners who understand their herding heritage and need for mental stimulation.
-
Corgis are active little dogs. They need daily walks, play, and mental enrichment. They are not “apartment dogs” that can be left with minimal activity.
-
Yes. They have a double coat and shed seasonally (often heavily twice a year). Regular brushing is essential.
-
Many Corgis are excellent with children when both the dog and the children are taught respectful interaction. Supervision is always recommended with young children.
-
They can be vocal. Early training and mental stimulation help manage excessive barking.
-
They are highly intelligent and eager to please, but they can also be independent and stubborn. Consistent, positive training works best.
-
Typically 12–15 years when well cared for.
-
Like many breeds, they can be prone to certain conditions (e.g. intervertebral disc disease, hip issues, eye conditions). Responsible breeding and maintaining a healthy weight significantly reduce risks.
-
They can be, provided the owner is committed to training, exercise, and learning about the breed. We are happy to guide first-time owners.
-
They can adapt if given sufficient daily exercise and mental stimulation, but they generally thrive better with a secure garden.
-
Yes, through our Blog and Knowledge Network we provide lifetime support. We remain available for advice on training, health, nutrition, and behaviour throughout your Corgi’s life.
-
Please contact us first. As responsible breeders we take lifetime responsibility and will help find a suitable new home if needed.
-
Yes. We share practical guidance and can point you toward resources and trainers experienced with Corgis.

Yes. We encourage meeting at least the mother (and the father when possible) as part of the process.
-
Yes. Puppies are KUSA-registered (or the registration process is completed) so you receive official papers.
-
Pembroke Welsh Corgis are traditionally tailless or very short-tailed. We follow current legal and ethical guidelines regarding any procedures.
-
A secure space, appropriate food, a crate or bed, collar and lead, toys, and a booked veterinary check-up. We provide a full checklist. https://corgicrew.co.za/the-first-48-hours/
-
Yes, we consider responsible homes across South Africa and, in special cases, further afield. Travel and handover arrangements are discussed individually.

-
Yes, we strongly encourage new owners to arrange pet insurance before or shortly after collecting their puppy. While our puppies leave in excellent health, unexpected veterinary costs can arise, and good cover provides valuable peace of mind.
-
We discuss the best timing for each individual dog. Current veterinary advice often recommends waiting until the puppy is fully mature (usually 12–18 months for Corgis) rather than early desexing, but the final decision should be made with your own veterinarian based on your dog’s health and lifestyle.
-
Corgis have a thick double coat and shed seasonally. Weekly brushing is usually sufficient most of the year, but during heavy shedding periods (typically spring and autumn) daily brushing is needed. They do not require professional clipping — just regular brushing, occasional baths, and nail care.
-
Most Corgis adapt well to car travel when introduced gradually. For air travel, they must travel in the cabin or as cargo according to airline rules. We can advise on safe travel crates and preparation if you plan to fly or take long journeys with your puppy.
-
Yes. Many of our families stay connected through updates we share and by sending us photos and news of their Corgis. We love seeing our puppies grow up and are always happy to hear from past placements.
-
Our breeding dogs are family members first. When they retire from the breeding programme they remain with us as cherished pets for the rest of their lives, or in rare cases are placed in carefully selected forever homes where we stay involved.
-
We combine carefully selected KUSA-registered bloodlines, thorough health testing, genuine home-raising with daily socialisation, limited litters, thoughtful matching of puppies to families, and lifetime support. Our focus is never volume — it is producing confident, healthy companions and standing behind them for life.
